Finally, the long-awaited H1N1 vaccine is expected to arrive. At least three of the four vaccine makers have begun shipping their products to undisclosed distribution centres.

The Centres for Disease Control has recommended that particular high-risk groups receive the H1N1 vaccine as soon as possible:

  • pregnant women
  • people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months old
  • health care and emergency medical services personnel
  • persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
  • people 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems

However, concerns over the safety of the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine, and the speed at which it was brought to market continue, as it becomes available to the general public amidst a massive campaign to inoculate Americans and lessen the impact of the pandemic.

  1. Skeeter Sanders Says:

That questions remain about possible side-effects of the H1N1 flu vaccine should come as no surprise to anyone over 50 years of age with a long memory. Indeed, many Americans — particularly those over 50 — have never forgotten the 1976 swine flu vaccination fiasco.
