Ris Low, a Queen without a Crown

Posted by sabrina On September - 30 - 2009 1 COMMENT

The worst or perhaps most ideal scenario has finally taken place. Miss World Singapore winner Ris Low has officially stepped down from the crown and backed out of the finals in Johannesburg, South Africa in December.

The 19-year-old beauty queen said, “I feel that it would be better for everyone, including Singaporeans who are not very supportive of me going to this pageant.” She added, “This is actually the best for everybody, including the company, the public and for myself. So yes, I have given it up because I think it’s the best choice now.” Read the rest of this entry »

More tourist, less business?

Posted by sabrina On September - 28 - 2009 1 COMMENT

A friend of mine was on MSN complaining about the difficulty he was having from simply getting back to his doorstep – having his car sold and the new one not arrive was besides the point.

The cause of his dilemma started just about the same time as the long awaited F1 race. Due to the event, roads around his area were blocked and that bag of lazy bones probably couldn’t withstand the detours I reckon.

The population is increasing, the nation is aging. According to the 2009 Population Trends report, as of the end of June, the number stood at 4.99 million – 3.73m Singapore residents and 1.25m non-residents.

It is said that there are literally more women in Singapore as the gap widened in 2009 with females outnumbering males by 44,4000.

Looking at the figures, man, it’s gonna be harder to get a boyfriend these days. *Joke* Read the rest of this entry »

Woman sings while in labour

Posted by sabrina On September - 27 - 2009 1 COMMENT

When in labour, women would do anything to make it easier for themselves. This one chooses to sing her way through it while having contractions during the home birth of her 10-lb. son.

Song is Psalm 23 by Michael Olson. I’m gong to stop moderating the comments so I apologize if anything nasty gets put up. I’ve tried to keep the bad language out, but I’m having trouble keeping up with all the comments. So… here goes nothing. Read the rest of this entry »

COPD movement, calling smokers!

Posted by sabrina On September - 25 - 2009 1 COMMENT

Did you know that Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the eighth leading cause of death, with some 64,000 moderate to severe cases recorded in Singapore? Well, now you do.

For that, a new campaign has been launched to raise awareness.

The campaign aims to reach out to those over age 40 or who have been smoking for over 10 years, especially smokers with a chronic cough, lots of phleghm and breathlessness. Read the rest of this entry »
